Description
What this book covers
Hartman’s 2E is the curriculum text for our 4-week hybrid Phlebotomy Technician Program. It covers the full scope of entry-level phlebotomy practice — not just the mechanics of a blood draw, but everything surrounding it: infection control, order of draw, specimen labeling, patient rights, professional conduct, and the clinical reasoning behind each step.
The 2nd edition aligns with current NHA, ASCP, and NPA certification exam content, which is important because our graduates sit for national certification immediately after completing the program.
How we use it in the program
Online lecture modules in our hybrid program follow the same chapter sequence as this textbook. You read a chapter, work through the online module, then complete the corresponding workbook exercises. By the time you arrive for in-person lab, the material isn’t new — it’s already been processed multiple times. That repetition is a big part of why our students pass certification exams at the rate they do.
What usually happens when students skip the textbook
They rely on lecture modules alone, which are designed to reinforce reading — not replace it. The result shows up in lab: gaps in clinical reasoning, uncertainty about sequencing, weaker performance on the written portion of the certification exam. The book isn’t optional even when it feels that way mid-program.
